Coats for Kids: A Big Award at the New Jersey State Convention

At the Knights’ State Convention in Wildwood, the Council was recognized for its successful Coats for Kids fundraising drive. We ranked number two among 367 New Jersey councils.  Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners, we raised $8400 for the purchase of 420 winter coats, which we distributed to families at the Saint Joseph Social Service Center in Elizabeth. Tom Abella chaired this year’s campaign. He thanks all the Brothers and their spouses who pitched in to make this year’s drive such a stand-out.

The Council  raised  a record-breaking $10,000 during this year’s campaign for Persons with Physical and Intellectual Disabilities. Twenty-nine Brothers and friends canned over three April weekends at nine local merchants,  ringing up  a total of 240 service hours. Contributions support The Arc of Essex County, First Occupational Center of New Jersey, Inroads to Opportunities of Union County, Camp Fatima, and  Holy Cross Center of Learning.

Council standouts this year were Sir Knight Jake Dalton who logged close to forty hours and collected $3000, and Etorre Torello who collected $2000.  This year’s drive was again organized by Brothers Mike Jansen,  Mike DelMauro, and Bob Keating.

Council 6386 thanks Kings Supermarket Short Hills,  CVS Pharmacy Millburn, Shop-rite  Millburn, Goldberg’s Famous Deli,  Millburn Deli,  Stew Leonard’s Wines Springfield, Panera Bread  Short Hills, Dunkin’ Donuts  Springfield,  and Walgreen’s Pharmacy Short Hills for allowing us to collect on their premises.  We also thank parishioners and community members for their generosity.
